A 4D ultrasound is an advanced imaging technique that creates real-time, moving three-dimensional images of a fetus. By adding the element of time to traditional 3D ultrasound, it allows visualization of movements such as facial expressions and limb motions. While not a routine prenatal test, it is often used to view the baby’s features and can aid in detecting certain birth defects, such as cleft lip, that may not be seen on standard 2D ultrasound.
